The fact is..no one could claim that he/she knows what is
going to happen on that day- or before for that matter! The one thing that is
for sure is that the atmosphere is Übercharged and that the political arena is
totally polarized like never – ever – before in Egyptian history.
Everyone is on their toes…Islamists, Ikhwan, opposition,
Copts and even the lay man in the street… The anxiety, tension and anticipation
so thick, you could cut it -Literally- with a knife.
The one thing that is sure –in my humble opinion- is that
Egyptians are so ready to hit the streets in unprecedented numbers…they are
angry, frustrated, disappointed and MAD. Since Jan 2011, Egyptians were taken
on a joy ride of ousting a tyrant only to face the harsh reality that Mubarak’s
dictatorship’s been replaced by a theocratic regime that not only violates each
and every aspect of their very modest yet very peppy lifestyles, but is also
destroying the very essence for their livelihood. The Ikhwan rise to power has
been nothing but one failure after the other from the acquittal of Mubarak and
many of the old regime figures, failure to bring those responsible for the
killing of the revolution martyrs to justice, the blatant violations of laws
and the the Ikhwani tailor-made constitution, the kidnappings and
assassinations of Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula. The list goes on
and on but last but not least the building of the Renaissance Dam by Ethiopia
that many perceive to be THE last straw. Islamists in general and Ikhwanis in
particular have succeeded in aggravating almost every sect in the Egyptian
society: the media, civic society, Judiciary, and of course the Liberals. Nowadays the single topic of argument amongst
Egyptians is whether the Ikhwan’s mistakes are intentional or mere stupidity?
Either way, Egyptians are left with no choice but to hit the
streets and although they know they may not be the only players in the arena
but are once again determined to take matters into their own hands. The Tamarod
or Rebel movement has succeeded in collecting millions of signatures of
Egyptians requesting the vote of no confidence for Morsi, is now aligning with
almost every opposition groups, affiliation or party in the country. If Jan 25
2011 Revolution was about Freedom and social justice, June 30 Revolution is
about something way more important…it is about Egypt’s survival!
